Katie Smart is a Kivu Law Fellow at Kivu Immigration Law PLLC. Katie grew up in the Greater Los Angeles area. She attended American University in Washington, DC, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a focus on human rights and peacebuilding, as well as a minor in Music Performance. She earned her law degree at William & Mary Law School, where she participated in the Immigration Clinic, was an Articles Editor for the William & Mary Journal of Race, Gender, and Social Justice, and graduated with two concentrations: Public Interest and Social Justice, and International Law. During law school, Katie interned at the Center for Legal Aid and Regional Development in Pristina, Kosovo, and the International Rescue Committee’s office in Charlottesville, Virginia. Her wide variety of experiences also include social justice communications, humanitarian advocacy, paralegal work, and teaching English to refugees abroad.
