Denise Merino Cavero is a summer intern at Kivu Immigration Law PLLC. Denise was proudly born and raised in California’s Central Valley. She attends Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut as a Questbridge Scholar. At Yale, Denise is majoring in Political Science and Ethnicity, Race, and Migration. For a semester, Denise participated in a study abroad program in Oaxaca, Mexico centered around migration, where her research focused on language services in Indigenous languages. She previously interned with California Rural Legal Assistance Inc.’s Language Justice unit. Denise hopes to attend law school and pursue a career in the immigration and public interest sector to promote language access across the legal system. Denise is fluent in English and Spanish and is working on learning Chatino de Zenzontepec. Outside of work and school, Denise loves to dance Mexican folklórico, read, and spend time with her siblings.
